Programme September 2007 to June 2008

Thursday 20th September

“Culzean Through the Seasons” by Iain Stevenson from Culzean

Iain is giving us an illustrated talk on the changes through the seasons of the beautiful gardens at Culzean Castle.

Friday 28th September

Isabel Garrett is organising a walk from Fairlie Marina to Largs with high tea at the Green Shutters. Meet 3pm at marina car park.

Thursday 18th October

“Railway Heritage” by Gordon Thomson, Ayrshire Railway Preservation Group

This is an illustrated talk including some archival slides. The railways are still an important part of Ayrshire’s transport system and this glimpse into the past highlights the historical significance of this
form of transport.

Thursday 15th November

“The Waverley” by Iain Quinn.

This promises to be a fascinating talk on the history of the “Waverley” which regularly sails from Ayr during the summer months, and the work which goes into keeping this fine old boat sailing.

Thursday 6th December

“Quiz Night”

A just for fun evening with mince pies, and tea and coffee. Those who came last year had a good laugh. Nothing too serious.

Saturday 19th January

“Burns Evening at Culzean Castle”
In 2008 this is being held in the State Dining Room in Culzean Castle which will make it a very special evening.

Thursday 14th February

“Lost Ayrshire” by Dane Love
Dane Love is a local author who writes with a passion on the subject of Ayrshire. In this illustrated talk he will be telling us about the lost architecture in Ayrshire, old houses etc. This is an opportunity to see some of the beautiful places that have succumbed to dry rot, neglect, and in some cases, the pure vandalism of people not valuing our heritage and pulling down beautiful buildings..

Thursday 13th March

“Education in the Trust and Update on Burns Birthplace Project” by Colin MacConnichie

Colin will be telling us about the importance of education in the Trust and some of the very successful projects with young people. He will then give us an update on the progress of the Burns Project at Alloway.

Friday 28th March   John Rattenbury is organising a walk taking a look at the industrial archaeology of Muirkirk. Meet 11am in Muirkirk. Further details
will be given nearer the date.

Thursday 17th April

“Ayrshire Smugglers” by Denis Rattenbury
An insight into those night workers who used the Ayrshire Coast for smuggling. Today we perhaps have a romanticised view of smugglers, but we should remember these were tough, ruthless men who would not let anything get in their way.

Thursday 15th May

A.G.M. at Culzean Castle, starts at 7:30pm

 ??th June
